Gryffindor
maltese-poodle
age: 6 years old
It's hard to imagine that little Gryffindor is 6 now. Seems like he was just a 6 month old puppy when we got him in 2002! He's a lap dog, but he thinks he's a rottweiler. Gryffie spends his days curled up on his pillow. If he isn't curled up in a little ball,he's barking at the top of his lungs in defense of his home at some hapless passerby on the street. Someone forgot to inform him that he's only 6 pounds of poodle rather than 150 pounds of flesh-rending fury. When he's not guarding the home from the United States Postal Service, Gryffindor usually trots after Jennifer and curls up at her feet. If she is in another room, he'll curl up in front of the door until he can plead or sneak his way in. When we get home from work (or even if we're outside for 2 minutes), he'll run to the door when we come in and bark furiously until he gets picked up and has attention lavished on him.
Arabella
maltese
age: 5 years old
Gryffindor and I first met Arabella at the Humane Society. I had the bright idea to wait until Jennifer was asleep before telling her that I was "taking Gryffindor for a walk." It was not until 2 hours later that Jennifer noticed the car was missing, and guessed where Gryffie and I had went. By that time, we had met Arabella at the Humane Society and fallen in love with her. She looked like a mop with eyes and a tail. We took her to the groomers the next day, and after they removed a year's worth of hair (literally), she was as thin as a rail. She's plumped up nicely since then. Arabella is the most playful of the group, and loves to chase her rubber ball or squeaky hamburger. She seems to have boundless energy and based on the small amount she eats and vast amounts she expels, firmly disproves the Law of Conservation of Matter. Arabella is definitely Daddy's little girl.Percy
Silky Terrier
age: 5 years old
Percy joined us last. He spent most of his childhood locked in his kennel and then was sent to the Humane Society. We've spent two years now working on his emotional issues: he hates to be alone and he doesn't know when play becomes unacceptable rough-housing. But we're working on these things and he is making progress. Except for being very high strung and following Gryffindor or Arabella's lead on barking at strangers, he's very affectionate, inquisitive, and loyal. Percy hates to be held, and he'll do anything for a treat.Crookshanks
short-hair domestic house cat
age: 6 years old
Crookshanks came to us from Marcus & Amanda, who raised and weaned him during his most formidable years. Crooks is a whopping 21 pound beast, but he likes to curl up in a quiet part of the house and sleep the day away. Generally, he's fat and lazy, but he'll whale on Arabella if her playful antics intrude on his quietude. He likes his tummy rub each morning, and he'll stretch out with elephantine gestures on the floor or table until he gets attention.
