We're replacing the porch. Everything under the roof and above the grounds. It's going to be a massive project using all my cunning and resources. Oh yeah, and savings.  Our contractor is a man of infinite resource and sagacity, so he'll do a first-rate job. In fact, he's using so much space-age polymers and synthetic material to rebuild the porch, in 1000 years, the only thing that may remain of the house is a front porch standing all by itself like the legs of Ozymandias. "Look on my front porch, ye mighty and despair!"

I'll update this page with periodic snapshots and pictures, so keep checking back.

The tendura will be delivered tomorrow and he'll begin on the flooring. This guy moves fast! August 7 - The tendura was delivered on 7/26, but returned to sender because it wasn't predrilled and the contractor didn't feel like drilling 2,300 holes. We finally got the new batch today.

We're waiting on special, magical, lucky nails that are hand-milled by German craftsman. Apparently the regular 1,000 for a $1 won't do.   But if the contractor says we need special, magical, lucky nails, then we'll wait patiently for the right material. The man knows whereof he speaks.

August 12 - These columns are pre-fabricated sides built around a 4x4 post. They look great!   The contractor said each column has about 45 parts.

It's a new look for the porch, but a good one. August 14 - Today, he finished off the trim and caulking.
People are slowing down to admire our porch. I love the attention our new porch is getting from passers-by.
August 22 - Today we officially consider the project completed. The contractor caulked the seams and primed the columns.
The final projects will be building balustrades and rails - that's a 2007 project. Next stop: we take off that siding and restore the clapboards and shingles. Hopefully also in 2007.
